FRANCE TRAVEL TIPS FOR FIRST TIMERS

Estimated read time 3 min read

If you’ve never been to France before, it’s a good idea to do a little research before you head over there. You’ll still have a good time, but you might come across a few things that’ll throw you off if you’re not careful. Here are some France travel tips for first timers that I hope will help you out!

Use a Michelin Map Instead of GPS

There are lots of ways you can make your way around France without getting lost. However, I wouldn’t use a GPS if I were you. Although it’ll probably take you straight to where you’re going, it’s better to use a Michelin Map. A Michelin Map will give you an idea of the sites you should be looking at along the way, so you can fully take in your new setting and see the sites!

Don’t Be Afraid to Get Lost

Don’t be afraid to get lost in France. Going off the beaten path can be fun, and actually get you to where you’re going quicker if there are a lot of tourists! Just make sure you know your way back to where you’re staying, say the guys at HouseTrip.com. This is where a GPS can come in handy if you can drop pins on the locations you’ve been to make your way back.

Learn a Few Phrases

The French will greatly appreciate it if you learn a few phrases before travelling. You can then greet them, say please, thankyou, and anything else you think is important. This will greatly enhance your trip and you’ll make friends much easier. At the very least, you should take a phrase book or a translation app to help you.

Be Kind

You may or may not already know, but French people love to get compliments. They’ll appreciate people who compliment them on their alcohol, food, establishment…anything! Be kind and show your approval for things. Smile and show that you’re happy with the service you’re receiving!

Watch Out for Scams

Just like any other place, you’ll need to watch out for scams in France. Keep your wits about you and watch out for anything strange. A common scam that people know of is the ‘gold ring’ scam. A person will find a ‘gold’ ring on the floor and ask if it’s yours. They’ll give it to you no matter what you say, but they’ll try to pressure you into giving them money. Their children may even appear out of nowhere to put even more pressure on you. Don’t fall for it. The ring is brass/copper and worthless! The majority of the people here can be trusted, but make sure you’re aware.

Use these tips to ensure you have the best time in France, whichever area you plan on ending up in. You’ll have a wonderful time with some unforgettable experiences. The sites, food, and people are all great! Leave any of your own France travel tips below if you’ve been before. See you back here soon!
